OMB Clutch Band Brake Kit InstructionThank you for purchasing the Clutch Brake Kit. Please read through the instructions prior to installing this kit. To make this installation as easy as possible, we recommend placing your bike on a level working table and strapping/blocking the bike to prevent it from tipping over. It's also a good idea to do a "dry fit" before you paint or powder coat so you have it all tweaked properly.
OMB Warehouse - Clutch Band Brake Kit
Alexander Reynolds ARCO Mini Bike Clutch Brake Kit - Short Chain Guard
Basic hand tools and mechanical knowledge are required for installation.
Sockets and wrenches:
3/8" 1/2" 9/16" - 1/2" open end wrench necessary to install aligning nuts.
Screw drivers - flat and phillips head.
Allen Wrenches
1) Install The 5/16 x 24 conduit retainer (3/8" socket or wrench & 1/2" open end wrench) and nut into the proper hole for inboard or outboard
sprocket operation. Use the outer hole for inboard sprocket operation and the inner hole for outboard sprocket operation.
2) Now you'll need to insert the 3/8" x 2 1/2" bolt into the mount far enough to get one of the 3/8" jam nuts started onto the bolt. Thread the jam nut onto the bolt approximately 3/4 on an inch.
Now install the band onto the threaded portion of the bolt. Continue threading the bolt into the jam nut until you have enough threads coming through the band to start the second jam nut.
3) You can now start the bolt into the riv-nut and thread in until it's flush.
4) Using the supplied 5/16" hardware, install the OMB clutch brake bracket onto your engine using the top two PTO mount holes in the side cover. If the bolts don't fit, you have metric PTO holes. You will need new mounting bolts.
5) Install the centrifugal clutch onto the PTO shaft making sure the keyway is aligned. Two Secure the clutch with set screw and if your engine is equipped, a bolt in the end of the crankshaft. You may need to tweak the ear of the band brake to get an air gap around the clutch. (See picture below for more information.)
6) Using the 3/8" jam nuts, align the band brake so it is centered on the drum of the clutch.
7) Install the brake lever onto the handlebar where desired.
8) Route the cable from the lever to the clutch brake mount and mark the conduit. Remove the inner cable and trim the conduit a the marked length. Reinstall the inner cable.
9) Install the barrel end of the cable into the brake lever. Route the cable through the fork and frame and secure with zip ties or conduit clips. The bars should steer freely and not bind.
10)Install the cable into the conduit stop on the band brake bracket. Slip the compression spring over the cable as it passes through the conduit stop. Continue pulling the cable through the spring.
11) Install the cable end into the brake pin in the band. Squeeze the band and take out excess slack in the cable. Tighten set screw in the brake pin. Work the lever at least 5-10 times. I added a thin piece of cardboard around the clutch to set a gap.
This is where fine tuning comes in. Get all of the slack out of the cable, ensure the cable moves freely when moving handle bars. Make sure your aligning nuts are tight. The tension spring can be cut down in circumstances if it's binding.
Once you get the proper gap and everything is tuned, cut the end of the cable, make sure everything is tight and install the clutch cover.
