Proper clutch maintenance will insure your clutch performs well and lasts you a long time! Before using your new clutch, it is very important to make sure the bushing has some oil on it. Just a couple drops of 30 weight oil is all it takes. Do not use any Teflon or silicon based lubricants as those will contaminate the shoes and the drum. Give the oil some time to soak into the bushing. This should also be done after every 2 hours of use. The bronze bushing will absorb the oil. Too much oil may contaminate the shoes and cause slipping. Younger riders that stop and go more often will need more oil, as the clutch will generate more heat and burn off the oil faster.
