Stage 1 Upgrade Installation Instructions
Tools - Needle nose pliers, 1/4" ratchet w/10mm socket, small regular screwdriver, 10 & 12mm wrench, 16mm 1/2" drive socket, 1/2' breaker bar, large ratchet(or impact) feeler gauge set to .003", small pick
If your engine is not brand new and dry of fluids, you will need to make sure you have something to pinch or plug the fuel line. It is important to have a clean, well lit and organized work area.
Make sure stop switch and fuel shut off are in the OFF position.
Remove the fuel tank vent line
Remove the carburetor fuel bowl drain bolt and capture the fuel into a clean bowl so it can be reused/recycled.
Next remove the valve cover to airbox vent line.
Remove the two 10mm hex nuts that secure the stock airbox
Gently pull the airbox off the mounting studs being careful to to damage the fuel shut off or choke lever
Remove the airbox to carburetor gasket and not it's orientation for reassembly
Next, slide the fuel line clamp back approximately 1" and remove the line from the carburetor(be prepared to plug or pinch the line if there is fuel in the tank)
You can now remove the carburetor from the studs. At this time you need to take a look at the carburetor mounting studs and make sure that the ends are even with each other. If not, you need to remove the shorter of the two studs and replace it with the one supplied in the kit. You can usually remove the stud by grabbing it with a decent pair of pliers on the shank(non threaded) area and break it loose. Once the stud is swapped they should be even and this will allow sufficient threads when mounting the filter adapter later.
